I got my information from the Encyclopedia of World War II. The plane as a Messerschmitt ME262. It was a superb machine with the armament of four 30mm cannon. Hitler's interference delayed the fighter by about 4 months. Total production by VE Day was 1433 with hundreds more damaged in the factories. They were low on pilots and fuel, but in one month in 1945 with only six serviceable aircraft they destroyed 45 of the Allies latest warplanes. Nevertheless too few were built to have any effect. Also Nazi leaders thought they would not need such advanced aircraft.

The previous answer is correct but the main reason that it didn't change the course of the war is that Hitler demanded it be used as a fighter-bomber, not the pure fighter it was designed as.
