Not sure because I can't find my copy, but is it Jamaica Inn? At the end, Mary Yellan leaves Cornwall, hence heading towards the Tamar.

Well done, Whit. I've just had a look at my copy of 'Jamaica Inn' and these are indeed the last words of the book.
