A postal order for five shillings was stolen from a cadet at a naval college and cashed at a post office. Winslow, a fellow cadet bought an order for fifteen and six at the same office and was mistakenly identified by a post office employee as the boy who had cashed the stolen order. He was expelled from the college and an action was fought to clear his name. The play is based on a real-life case.
