How many stars are calculated to be in the universe?

Question #15957. Asked by smart Guy.

    Son of The Household Cavalry

I think the word should be estimated rather than calculated - There are too many stars for scientists to actually count one-by-one, so other methods of estimating the total number of stars are used. They believe that there are on the order of 10 to the power of 21 stars in our Universe (that is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 give or take a couple.)
