Molokai is home of the famous Kalaupapa Penninsula, a national historic park! This is where Father Damien devoted his life to the comfort and healing of a colony of victims of Hansen's Disease (leprosy), eventually contracting the condition himself. While the disease is now treatable and the people are gone, the churches, houses, and hospitals built by Father Damien survive to today. The story of Father Damien is known through out the world.
