What did Richard M. Nixon's father raise on his ranch in Yorba Linda California?

It was a failed Lemon Farm (sometimes refered to as a Citrus farm) but the choice of the word raised in the question is confusing. You can raise children and cattle but I am not sure about raising fruit.

Dictionary definitions for the word 'raise' include 'to grow vegetables' (no mention of fruit) and 'to set up, erect or build'. Frank Nixon (Richard M's father) built (raised?) the farmhouse in which his son was born and this was on a lemon ranch. He also built a gas station and grocery store. I'm still not happy with this answer though and I agree with Senior Moments that 'raise' is a confusing choice of word for this question.
