This would be Gloria Grahame, the actress who played Violet, the Bedford Falls vamp in It's A Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart. She was married for the first time in 1945 to director Stanley Clements. They were divorced on June 1, 1948 and she married Nicholas Ray, another director, the same day. Later that year she gave birth to her first child, Timothy Ray, born November 12th. Her second married ended in divorce on August 14, 1952. She was married the third time in the later part of the fifties to Cy Howard, yet another director, and gave birth to her second child, a daughter Marianna Paulette Howard, born October 1, 1956. Being labeled difficult to work with, after 1955 Gloria found film roles drying up and her third marriage failing. This was due to the fact that she had fallen for her husbands stepson, Tony Ray whom she would later marry on May 13, 1960. She would bear him two sons, Anthony Ray Jr., born April 30, 1963 and James Ray, born September 21, 1965. The marriage and subsequent scandal shocked Hollywood and was good fodder for the gossip columnists. She found herself not only in court for a divorce but was also battling her second husband, as well as her third in bitter child custody battles. While her movie career was over, she found her stage career booming, and was busy working on a play when she collapsed during a rehearsal. After being rushed to a hospital it was found she was suffering from cancer. She spent her last days resting at the home of her friend Peter Turner, in Liverpool, England. As the end drew near, her children arranged to have her flown back home and she died in New York on October 5, 1981 at the age of 58.
