According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame: William Heffelfinger.
William 'Pudge' Heffelfinger. Heffelfinger openly accepted $500 to play for the Allegheny Athletic Association on Nov. 12, 1892. It paid off, too, as Allegheny 'thumped' the Pittsburgh Athletic Club, 4-0! A lot has changed since then - namely touchdowns counting for 6 points.
