Why are CDs, videos and DVDs always released on Tuesday instead of any other day of the week?

It appears to be one of those 'its always been tuesdays' with nobody knowing why. The closest I have managed to get was in an article about singles which may have some bearing. Part of the article is as follows:- Until this spring, record labels released their singles sporadically, with new records hitting stores as many as three days a week.
