At a leisurely pace, how long does it take to walk a mile?

Question #16536. Asked by an alias.

    McGruff

This is from a fitness site.

A leisurely walker takes about 115-120 steps per minute and will cover a mile in approximately 17-18 minutes. A brisk pace demands 135 steps per minute, for a 15 minute mile.

Depends on the individual and the level of fitness. I walk 1.5 miles to work everyday and reckon to do it in 20 minutes. Familiarity with the route helps.

I go with McGruff on this one. I find what I would term a leisurely walk always seems to finish up around 3 mph and a brisk walk is 4 to 4.5 mph.
