Texas Tornadoes have hit all 50 U.S. states. But this doesn't happen every year. The 30-year average number of tornadoes per year in Alaska, Rhode Island, and Vermont is closer to zero than to one. In Oklahoma and Texas, the average jumps to 52 and 126, respectively, though the high number in Texas is mainly due to the size of the Lone Star state. www.usatoday.com/weather/wtornavg.htm

And the Oscar goes to-----it's a tie (the crowd roars and the other nominees put on their fake smiles)---------- Texas and Oklahoma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Accepting the award for both states is Brainy Blonde! Gtho4 is correct when saying Texas has the most due to the size of the state. Tornadoes are recorded by how many per 10,000 square miles. If Oklahoma were the same size as Texas, they would get a little over 7 per 10,000 square miles. Where as Texas only gets a little less than 5 per 10,000 square miles. See: http://www.usatoday.com/weather/wtornavg.htm Weather stats for Oklahoma 1999 May: 91 tornadoes, most in one month, 1950-1999. 1999 Warmest November of century with a statewide-averaged temperature of 56.2 degrees. 1999: Most tornadoes in a single year, 137 tornadoes. 1998-1999: Most tornadoes in consecutive years, 220. For more information and statistics see: http://climate.ocs.ou.edu/weathertimeline/1990.html Oklahoma Weather Facts Oklahoma's weather is identified with tornadoes. For sheer numbers of reported events (corrected for the size of the state), the identification is well justified. An average of just over 50 tornadoes per year are reported and confirmed within the state's borders. Reliable counts of tornadoes are available only from 1950 to the present, but during that time the state has recorded as many as 136 tornadoes in a single year {(1999;} unofficial total) and as few as 17 (1988). Most tornadoes are weak and occur in the countryside, where damage and human suffering are minimized. Although 40 people died in the May 3, 1999 tornado outbreak, tornado fatalities have been decreasing, in general, as a result of increased warning and preparedness. The deadly twisters that struck Woodward (1947), Snyder (1905), Peggs (1920), Antlers (1945), and other Oklahoma towns and cities are etched in the memories and traditions of the state. See: http://climate.ocs.ou.edu/product-list.html However, I think you will all be as surprised as I was, when I read in the Guinness World Record Book for 2001, that the country with the most tornadoes by area is the United Kingdom! Now everyone that knew that, raise your hand. Anyone with their hand raised can go stand in the corner, because you are lying!!! LOL!!!! It has to be a miss print in the book. I don't think England gets any more tornadoes that Canada, and we get very few.

No, Brainy Blonde, I have heard that statement before about Britain getting most tornadoes per area. Apparently, we in Britain get a lot of small tornadoes and, although it seems very strange, tis true !

Just to add to this, I was reading something last night which said that on one day in August, 10-15 years' ago, there were 51 tornadoes reported in Britain, across the country. Apparently, and one reason this information is surprising - even to Brits - is that many of the tornadoes occur at night, so most people are asleep and aren't aware of them.

Uh...Stevo, I'd like to point out to you that the question asked is "Which STATE gets the most Tornadoes" NOT COUNTRY.
So Brainy Blonde and GTHO4 are correct.
Although Britain is the COUNTRY that gets most tornadoes, you still did not answer the question which was asked. Have a nice day being wrong! :D
