Who succeeded Omri as King of Israel ?

Question #17068. Asked by Rosie. (Mar 10 02 8:23 AM)

    Barrow boy

Jack, I agree that Achab (or Ahab) succeeded Omri but another website says Ahab reigned from 922-902BC following Omri's death in 922. I'm sure that Rosie only wants the name, but this period of history is difficult to date precisely. Incidentally my site is http://www.biblehistory.webcentral.com.au/IsraelBC.htm

    Jack Flash says:

Omri died in 869 BC and was succeeded by his son Achab whose reign lasted until 853 BC when he was killed at the siege of Ramoth.

I should have added that my source is The Guinness Book of Kings, Rulers and Statesmen, usually pretty reliable. Of course, we are dealing with events which occurred nearly 3000 years ago so there are bound to be a few discrepancies. As you say, Rosie has the name she is after but a few additional facts, even if in some dispute, are always of interest.
