    		In 1890, convicted murderer William Kemmler becomes the first person to be executed in the electric chair, at Auburn State Prison in New York. . .

    Ran into the name of the first woman also. On March 20, 1899, Martha M. Place of Brooklyn, N.Y., became the first woman to be executed in the electric chair. She was put to death at Sing Sing for the murder of her stepdaughter.
