The man is right--James M. 'Slim Jim' Gavin, but he didn't command the 555th. If I remember correctly, the 555th (or 'triple nickel') stayed in the US during the war and were assigned fire-fighter duty. They had the task of jumping into areas where fires had been started by incindiary bombs released from those infamous balloons launched by the Japanese. So, what unit did Gavin command?
