Fred and Wilma were married for what seemed like ever and were devoted to each other. They lived in the penthouse of a tall block of flats. One morning Fred was going to work so he kissed his wife goodbye and left. Half way down to the ground floor (First floor in the US) he was heartbroken as he knew Wilma was dead. How come?

Jeeves is correct. Wilma was on a life support system. Half way down, the lift stopped and all the lights went out so Fred knew there was a power cut. (Fred was going to replace the back up batteries that day - for all those doubters out there)
