McVicker and Joseph S. McVicker invented 'Play-Doh' in 1956, and received a patent for it in 1965. Kenner acquired Play-Doh, only to be bought out by Hasbro, which transferred PlayDoh to its Playskool division. Play-Doh was originally designed as a wallpaper cleaner. Its similarity to regular modeling clay without the toxicity or mess made Play-Doh a great toy.
