I think you may have trouble finding out this answer. All the sites I looked at were by country, not the total in the world. Some countries have a number that is referred to as 'about.' Australia say they have just over 60. Some come right out and say they don't know. However, all say the numbers are decreasing daily. I did find the following, but I don't know how accurate it is. As of November 10, 1996, some 13,000 WWI veterans are reportedly still alive. See: http://my.en.com/(tilde)robinr/wardiary/ArmisticeDayLetter.html The following is a very comprehensive site with many links, so the answer may be found there. http://www.pitt.edu/(tilde)pugachev/greatwar/ww1.html

Thanks Brainy Blonde, Servicemen still alive today will be at least 100 years old - we know in England there are only about 200 left, so taking all countries involved the figure cannot exceed 1,000. What a debt of gratitude we owe these dear men, eh? Thanks for your help, everyone!
