The first key to finding anything on the net is to spell it correctly. The names of these two men are spelled David Mamet and Michael Merritt.
Michael Merritt was an award-winning set designer who frequently worked with David Mamet. Merritt designed the original set for Mamet's play 'American Buffalo' and served as production designer on the writer-director's three films, 'House of Games' (1987) 'Things Change' (1988) and 'Homicide' (1991). He also designed the sets for Arthur Hiller's Babe Ruth biopic 'The Babe' (1992) which was released in the same year that he died of cancer.
In David Mamet's collection of poems called 'The Chinaman' there is a poem titled 'In Memoriam Michael Merritt.' I've yet to find what play was dedicated to him.
