If you mean the Paul McCartney-is-dead thing, it was supposed to be because he wan't wearing any shoes on the cover of the Abbey Road album - a symbol of his corpsedom.

But it has started long before Abbey Road was released. On the cover of Sgt. Pepper's there's a hand over Paul's head--which is also a morbid symbol.

The licence plate number of the white Volkswagen in the photo was also supposed to be a clue. It was LMW 281F and was interpreted as showing that Paul would have been 28 if he had lived. In fact he was 27 when the album was released.

There was also a part on The White Album, when played backwards was suppose to say "Paul is dead" over and over. Believe it or not, there are some young people that hear about all this for the first time and think it is real!
