I wish to cover a 'frequently touched' surface with comic cuttings and newspaper. firstly, how could i attach the cuttings and secondly, how can i prevent the ink smearing or rubbing off completely over a long period of very frequent touching and rubbing ?

You have not told us the type of surface you are trying to cover. The method of attachement might differ considerably if the surface is pliable or rigid and certain materials need to have different adhesives.

If this is for a worktop or table, it would be best to cover it with a sheet of toughened glass.

I often put instructions, notes, the frequently called telephone numbers list, etc, in those heavy plastic protector sleeves and tape them to the desk at work. These need to be changed once in a while, as they do not last forever but it is an alternative to a layer of glass, which would be impossible on the desk in my situation.
