Yikes! And I was breaking a sweat trying to figure out how cornmeal becomes a fish. Never thought of the shoes! Good thinking!

There may be confusion here. In the UK Hush Puppies are a type of shoe which in the US would be known as Loafers, I think. Perhaps Helen17 had in mind something quite different.

Hush Puppies are a brand name of shoes in Canada. I think they are available in The US as well, but if not, I'm sure most have heard of them.
