Another great source of information : http://leda.lycaeum.org/Taxonomy/Cannabis_sativa.73.shtml It says : Cannabis sativa has been cultivated throughout the world for fiber, including by the Founding Fathers in colonial America. Strains used for this purpose have very low levels of THC, although when cultivated for inebriating effect the same species can be very potent.

Hemp is the cousin of marijuana. They are from the same plant -Cannabis sativa L. There are over 1,000 strains of Cannabis Hemp bred for various uses. The term, 'Hemp' refers to the industrial use of the stalk and seed. Cannabis or 'marijuana' refers to the smoking or ingesting of the flowers and leaves. Psychoactivity requires high levels of THC -TetraHydraCannibinol.Cannabis contains 5%-10% THC. Industrial hemp contains only .3%-1.5% THC, yet has a higher concentration of Cannabidiol, or CBD, which maintains an inverse relationship with THC and tends to moderate its effects. See: http://www.hemppages.com/4basic.html cannabis weed that grows in the devil's garden was one and the same plant as cannabis {hemp;} the tree-saving, most annually renewable, fastest-growing, no pesticide needing, absolutely finest and most abundant source of paper, fiber, fuel, fabric, food and machine oil, and all-in-one medicine of any known plant in earth's recorded history. See: http://www.plasticbabylon.com/HistoryofHemp.htm Hash is short for hashish. Hashish is made from the resin of Cannabis or marijuana plants, and is a concentrated form of THC. Through the process of making hash, you can also make it extremely potent.
