It should be mentioned that Lieutenant General George Washington was appointed the only 6 star General in the Army. Washington was promoted posthumously to 6 star general by Congress in 1976. The resolution reads 'it's considered fitting and proper that no officer of the US Army should outrank Lieutenant General George Washington.'
