A mosquito cannot bite. The mosquito has no biting parts so it doesn't really bite. It stabs through the victim's skin with a needle-like part and sucks up the blood that flows.

Mosquito 'bites' are the total bugbear of summer holidays, but if you do get 'bitten' there's one thing you'll know for sure - the culprit was a girl! A female mosquito can suck four times her own weight in blood in just one sitting. A pretty gruesome prospect, especially since that amount of blood should really make her explode. She avoids this by filtering out spare water and pooping it out, while continuing to suck blood. Overall she will drink one thousandth of a teaspoon of blood.
How many teaspoons in 5 litres? One UK teaspoon = 6.16 millilitres - which means about 812,000 mosquitos.
If you want to avoid getting 'bitten' give your mate a banana as apparently they are attracted to people who have just eaten one.
