    Question #19040. Todd asks:

A child is born in Boston MAss. to parents who were also born in Boston Mass., yet this child is not a US citizen. How is this possible?

    Mike

    Mike says:

The child's parent's died shortly after the child was born and the child was adopted by non-US citizens. Or: A mix-up in birth certificates negated a claim to US citizenship. Or: The birth took place while the mother was in-flight and the moment of birth took place over international waters.

    Mike again says:

The birth took place prior to independence. Therefore the child was a British subject.
