Why do some scientists no longer consider Pluto a planet?
Question

Mainly because of its size. Pluto's diameter is 1412 miles, while the next smallest planet, Mercury, has a diameter over twice that--of 3031 miles. Many moons in the solar system are bigger than Pluto--Ganymede, Titan, Callisto, Europa, Io, and the Earth's moon for example. I think the latest thinking is that bodies with a diameter of more than 1000 miles who orbit the sun as their primary will be considered planets.
