    Symbol O, atomic number 8, the most abundant of all elements. What is it?

    		This is oxygen but I thought there was more nitrogen in the air than oxygen.

    		It is indeed Oxygen and Nitrogen is indeed the most abundent in the air (about 70% if my O Level chemistry remembers well).

    However Oxygen also occurs in water (H20) and at a guess this with the 29% (?) in the atmosphere would probably make it the most abundant element.

    		O is oxygen, and element 8, however hydrogen is by far the most abundant element in the universe.

    		The symbol for oxygen is O and the atomic number for oxygen is 8. There are eight abundant elements in the earth, and they are oxygen, silicon, aluminium, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium and then magnesium.
