I would consider his role as Patch Adams to be a major serious role, along with the Good Morning Vietnam role. Just because the man is primarily a comedian does not mean that the roles are not serious ones. May 27 02, 6:25 AM

Add to the list Moscow on the Hudson and Dead Poets Society - both films with comic moments but ultimately serious. What Dreams May Come would be a serious role if the rest of the film wasn't so laughable (IMHO). Good Will Hunting earned the Oscar nomination too (did he win?
