Young people got their first taste of this new musical movement when 'Bringing It All Back Home' came out in March 1965. The recording featured both acoustic folk songs and grinding rockers and when 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' was released as a single that spring, the pop charts swung open to a whole new style of music. The song climbed to number one in England and the album became Dylan's first gold record. http://revdoor38.homestead.com/dylan.html

It was for the album 'Highway 61 Revisited' in 1965. Remember it well!!

Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited were both certified gold on August 25, 1967. Both were released in 1965, however, Bringing It All Back Home was released first. In that sense, it is the first of Dylan's albums to be certified gold. http://www.expectingrain.com/dok/cd/charts.html

Just to clarify, Blonde On Blonde was also certified gold the same day. It was released in 1966. Without more detailed sales records, I don't see any way of determining which one actually sold enough units first.

I tend to agree McG - websites by the dozen on Bob Dylan but not the required information. Neil should go with what you have found.Agreed? I've been ploughing through the web for at least an hour - brought back a lot of memories, but no hard facts!! On with the next Question!
