    How many MPH must be the winds of a storm for it to be a hurricane?

    		According to a number of websites, a hurricane (force 12) on the Beaufort scale has a speed of at least 64 knots, or about 73 and a half miles an hour.

    		The Oxford Book of Weather Facts has this to say on the matter: A hurricane is an intense low-pressure area which originates over the tropical oceans. It should have wind speeds of at least 64 knots (119 kph or 74 mph) to earn this title. The diameter of a hurricane is usually about 500 km (300 miles).
