http://www.lcsa.org.uk/editorial.html is an interesting site. Carnivores are often solitary creatures, although the inexperienced may hunt in pairs, the majority learn survival and hunting techniques in small family groups or packs. However, some species within the genus Canidae have specialized into pack animals... African hunting dogs attack their prey in a pack, pursuing them for several miles if necessary. Their secret is stamina rather than speed and when they have worn down their prey the kill is clumsy but efficient. They simply tear at the flesh of the victim until the animal is weak from loss of blood, when they pull it over and start to devour it. (Desmond Morris. 1990. Animal Watching. Jonathan Cape, London)
