Question

There were probably bears in prehistoric times but nowadays the only bears in England are to be found in zoos. In the 19th century and earlier dancing bears were a form of entertainment, and up until the 17th century bear-baiting was a popular pastime. Thankfully all this is in the past.

Quote from a site on bears. The brown bear died out in England and Scotland during the Middle Ages, earlier in Wales. In Ireland there is no evidence of them at all during historical times. They were hunted and persecuted out of existence.
