Why do they call Brits limeys, and do you find this offensive?

Question #20142. Asked by Hank. (Jun 29 02 1:43 PM)

This comes from the time when British sailors were given a ration of limes, which were rich in vitamin C, so helped prevent scurvy. Hence 'Limeys'! I've never been called this, but I wouldn't take offence.

I haven't ever been called a limey - a pom maybe but not a limey. I would find it laughable.

Nope, don't (didn't) find it offensive at all. Nor being called a Pom.
