The first coin minted in honor of a U.S. President was the 'Washington Pieces' dating from 1783 to 1795. It wasn't until 1909 that the next President's coin, the Lincoln Cent, was issued for his 100th birthday. Next came the Washington Quarter, issued as a commemorative on the 200th anniversary of his birth in 1932.
