    There are about 960 federally protected species of plants and animals in the United States. Some are prohibited to be hunted at all, some have special allowances for Native Americans such as the polar bear. In addition, game laws vary from state to state. It would be best to approach this question from either the state you are hunting in, or the particular game you are after.
