Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941. He changed his name to Dylan after (because of his admiration of) the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. He changed his name in the late 50's (1959, maybe a bit before that---or maybe a bit later in the very early 60's---depends on which source, and I didn't get a definitive answer to this beyond what I've given you here. See:us.imdb.com/Bio?Dylan,+Bob OR search.biography.com/print_record.pl?id=21435 OR www.vh1.com/fanclubs/main/63.jhtml
