Monday Night Football was the brainstorm idea of Pete Rozelle, the NFL Commissioner in 1970. Between him and ABC Sports Director, Roone Arledge, they launched the first telecast in September of 1970. The initial three broadcasters were, Don Meredith, Howard Cosell, and Keith Jackson. Frank Gifford replaced Jackson one year later.
