Besides the common word 'limb', there is a word 'limb' meaning 'the edge of the disk of a heavenly body, especially the sun or moon' (Oxford English Dictionary). Thomas Hardy, describing a sunrise in 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles', writes 'The sun's lower limb was just free of the hill'. If this question is a cryptic crossword clue or some kind of riddle, there may be a play on the words 'lower limb'.
