    Chickens constantly lay eggs, how do they know which ones have been fertilized so to sit on them untill they hatch into chicks?

    		When a cock and hen mate, the hen saves up the sperm in a special pouch and then fertilises the eggs herself after she has laid them. A hen in this state is called a 'clucker' or a 'clockin' hen' in Ireland.

    		Chickens do not know which eggs are fertilised , a broody hen will sit on any egg,it is common practice to buy in eggs for the bird to sit on
