    What is the Unforgivable Sin?

    Question #20753. Asked by Dark.

    Fluff

    Matthew 12:32 (King James)
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against
the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this World, neither in the World to come.

Thank you Fluff, but what does it mean to speak against the Holy Spirit--any examples please?

Quite simply, whatever sins a person may have committed in his or her lifetime, the only unforgivable sin, which would bring damnation, would be to reject Christ. 'He that believeth on him (Jesus) is not {condemned;} but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.' (St. John 3:18).

THe sin of Despair is a sin against the Holy Spirit as is its opposite, the sin of Presumption.

Dark - The modern NIV bible gives a easier to understand answer.
Matthew 12.v 31 and 32 - And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men,but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man(Jesus)will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this world or the next.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit a manifest by the sin of Despair or presumption - have a look at the Penny Catechism - it will tell you all this. If you have despaired then you won't care if you burn anyway, Dark.
