The greeks coined the wod hippopotamus to mean 'river horse', but what is the animal (river pig, river buffalo, river elephant, river rhino) ?

I don't know if anyone else understands this question, because I don't. The Hippo is an artiodactyl which makes it a 'relative' of both the pig and the rhino. It is a pachyderm so it is also a relative of the elephant and the rhino.

Can't find my reference but have heard/read the Hippo being called the River Pig.

As the hippo is the largest (I think) member of the pig family, river pig would seem to be appropriate.
