Great news that the trapped miners were rescued. However can anyone help with a question (well argument really) - I distictly remember seeing a film about trapped miners - sadly the whole thing turned into a carnival with fair rides etc. Does anyone know what film I'm thinking of?

I think this could be 'Ace in the Hole' aka 'The Big Carnival' in which I starred as a cynical reporter trying to exploit a human interest story

Many thanks Kirk - I am sure I saw it as The Big Carnival. What country was it set in - was it USA or possibly Wales?

Take an asprin Tim. The movie Ace in the Hole {is;} loosely based on both a 1920's cave-in accident and an even more heart-tugging, paper-selling tragedy in 1949, Ace in the Hole bears a passing resemblance to history, but its merciless slant is Billy Wilder's own. In 1925, Floyd Collins, the owner of the Crystal cave in central Kentucky, was trapped inside after a landslide. Due to the Louisville Courier%96Journal reporter who helped command the rescue operations, covering the story all the while, Floyd's misfortune was America's entertainment. The story gripped the nation for several weeks before (and immediately after) Collins died in the cave. Location : Shot amidst the swirling dust, sagebrush and interminable desert glare of New Mexico, http://www.sensesofcinema.com/contents/01/19/cteq/ace.html
