This could be a tricky one - The Stanley Cup was presented by Lord Stanley of Preston in 1893 for the Amateur Champions of Canada. It's only from 1926 that it has become the premier trophy in the sport. The 1926 champions were New York. The Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP in Playoffs) was first awarded in 1965 to Jean Beliveau of Montreal. Reference World Almanac (US version) and Oxford Companion to Sports and Games.
