'Flip Wilson was an outstanding performer and one of the funniest people I ever knew.' --Milton Berle, comedian With a wig, high heels and a sassy falsetto, Flip Wilson sashayed into America's living rooms, spicing up the 1970s with burlesque humor and introducing a rare black voice to prime-time audiences. After getting his start on 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' and 'Laugh-In,' Wilson landed his own variety show in 1970. 'The Flip Wilson Show,' with repeat appearances of Wilson's female alter-ego Geraldine, was a hit on NBC for the next four years. After a couple of unsuccessful TV projects in the mid 1980s, Wilson retired from show business to raise his children out of the spotlight. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1998/year.review/obits/entertainment.media/
