Is the official nickname of the United States flag 'Stars and Stripes' or 'Old Glory'?

Question #23207. Asked by Yank. (Oct 13 02 7:13 PM)

I'll stand corrected on this one if any of my American colleagues know better.
The official nickname is the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory refers to a name given by William Driver in 1824, The first Stars and Stripes is attributed to Betsy Ross in June 1776 (but it is also accepted that there were earlier stars ands stripes flags). There is an alternative nickname of The Star Spangled Banner
