Moses the first five books , Early history and law of Israel. Pentateuch. (To the Jews, these books are known as the Tora, or actually sep-hatora, meaning 'teaching' or 'instruction'. Pentateuch comes from the Greek word pentateuchos meaning literally 'five volumes', or more commonly five-fifths of the law.
