    		In 1902 Teddy Roosevelt visited Mississippi. Friends had captured a bear cub for him and tied it to a tree. When Roosevelt saw the bear he asked that the bear be set free. Newspapers reported the event. A toy store in NYC sent him a letter asking if they could name their stuffed bears after him, he agreed and thus began the Teddy Bears.
