It is to do with where they originated. http://www.uta.fi/FAST/US8/SPEC/foodfolk.html an extract of which is as follows:- A recent ADS-L posting discussed the food item 'Buffalo wings' and their late (alleged) originator. This led me to do some Nexis searching on 'Buffalo wings' and the supposed creation of the appetizer itself by Teressa Bellissimo at the Anchor Bar and Restaurant on the corner of East North and Main in Buffalo in 1964--a tale repeated many times with slight variations in the food columns of dozens of newspapers.
