There has been a lot of debate over it but it is believed Bram Stoker found the name Dracula out of a book that inaccuratly said it meant devil, and that Stoker had no idea Vlad existed. Others though, believe that he based Dracula off of Vlad the Imperial and Elizabeth Bathory (legend says she bathed in the blood of young virgins) but no one knows for sure. By the way Dracula actually means, "son of the dragon," and Dracul, Vlad's father's name, means "dragon".
