A British Billion is 1,000,000,000,000 - equal to an American Trillion I believe. Traditionally the British changerd the name for every six zeros, so a trillion would have eighteen zeros in Britain.

What did you call 1,000,000,000.

We called it a thousand million. Dictionaries also gave the word 'milliard', but I never heard it used.

Milliard is used in Europe as well. I have heard it used, and seen it in print on many occasions.

I've heard it used on the Continent as well, but I've never heard or seen it used by a Brit who is speaking to or writing for other Brits.
